Typical Meeting

Entry fees are £3 for members, £4 for guests and everyone is handed their name badge and signed in.  Signing in is an important condition of using the hall in case there is an emergency and the Committee does everything it can to speed this process along, but queues do sometimes form and we would ask you to be patient.  It is also a great help if members arrive with the correct money!

Bring and Buy table           Sam\\\'s table

Once inside, there is the opportunity to visit the bring and buy table and there is usually a trader to tempt you to part with some more money!  This is also the opportunity to take a sneak peek at the speaker's work displayed at the front of the hall.

Show and Tell table

There is usually a "show and tell" table at the front of the hall where members can exhibit items which they have made for others to see.  There is also a board at the back of the hall with notices about events of interest and a bi-monthly newsletter and the occasional Embroiderers' Guild "Contact" magazine.

The meeting starts with notices from the Chairman about Guild matters and other items of interest.  The Chairman then introduces the speaker and hands over to him/her for the next hour or so.  The talk is usually on a particular aspect of the speaker's work and illustrated with slides and actual pieces.  At one recent talk the speaker brought along at least a dozen beautiful full size quilts, in addition to various other items.  At the end of the speaker's presentation there is an opportunity to ask questions.

Tea and biscuits are available after the talk and this is a further opportunity to look at the speaker's work in more detail and to ask the speaker any more questions.  Our speakers love what they do and are always happy to explain their techniques and sources.
