Calling All Treasurers
Six people came to the first Treasurer's Training Day and all said it was helpful and gave them more confidence. If you are interested please let me know which days of the week you are able to come .Regional & Branch Loans to the Embroiderers' Guild

Regional Day July 7th 2012
Put this date in your diary (when you get the new one)! We have two outstanding speakers, Alice Kettle whose amazing machine embroidery is seen all over the world and Susan Payne, who coming down from Scotland to tells us about the making of a 17th century jacket.
The meeting will be in the Fulton Building at the University of Sussex from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm. This has excellent public transport links and car parking will cost £2.00 per day.
The Branch Challenge ‘Wearable Art on the Theme of Jubilee' will be judged at lunch time. I hope that all branches will persuade one of their members to model their creations. It should be fun!
Olympic Postcards
We have heard from the Guild that the Olympic postcards will probably be displayed in the gallery in St. Martins in the Field, London, during August to 23rd September, having been in other cities prior to the commencement of the Games. The response
to our recent competition shows that members have mastered the art of making postcard sized
embroideries. Please complete your postcards by January 31st and send them to Jackie Rayer at:

BRANCH NEWS!
Isleworth & District Branch
About 200 people marched round the streets of Isleworth on November 19th to protest about the proposed closure of the St. John's Community Hall by Hounslow Borough Council. Eight members of the branch marched, including Joan Hazell and
Vera Marston shown below, whilst other members were taking part in a workshop in the building with Jill Flower. The local councillors were present so we hope they got the message that a lot of people care about the hall.
Kingston & District Branch
Kingston Branch has been celebrating their 40th year with great enthusiasm. Following the success of their group collage of Henry VIII, which now hangs in the Clore Centre at Hampton Court their next group project, was presented to the local
John Lewis to celebrate their 20th Anniversary in the town and to express the branch's thanks for the support given to them by John Lewis. They were delighted and displayed it in their café. In April the branch was approached by a local Infant
school, to help them create a wall hanging for their reception class communal area. After discussion and planning with the staff, an underwater fish theme was decided upon. The 90 five year olds each embellished their own fish with stitch, buttons, beads and net (absolutely no glue!), with the help of Kingston members who went into the school to supervise.
The watery, sea weedy background was worked on over several weeks on a drop-in basis, using space at a hall where we run our weekly stitch class. This
was a great opportunity to work on a very large scale (4m x 1.5m). Many members were involved, donating materials and beads, or helping in school or on the background and contributing each in their own way. The hanging was delivered on time to the school and they are delighted with it.
Kingston also celebrated their 40th Anniversary in great style with a formal dinner last November. The entertainment was provided by The Tudor Tailors who ‘dressed Queen Elizabeth 1'; a perfect end to the evening and their Anniversary year.
A full article from Carol Marshall, Chairman of Kingston, will appear in the next edition of Contact
Horsham Branch
As the newest branch in the region, Horsham has been going from strength to strength and felt ready to undertake a group community project in connection with the Friends of Horsham Hospital. For the new children's physiotherapy department,
The Hilltop Centre, we have undertaken to create three pieces of work that relate to the patients, that is the pre-school infants, the primary school age group and to the secondary school pupils. Led by one of our members, Edith Barton, we have just completed the first of these pieces. Young children from the clinics held at the centre were asked to draw a picture based on the theme ‘What Makes
You Happy'; these pictures were transferred to calico and stitched faithfully by members of the branch.
This month we were delighted to present the Hilltop Centre with the completed piece of work. It has been a real learning curve, not least complying with the stringent requirements when framing the piece, but it was very well received.
