Members' Gallery

We have members of all ages with varied skills and interests.

If you have a piece which you have made which you are pleased with or has special significance to you, please share it with us and perhaps tell us a little about it (e.g. kit, made at a workshop, something you thought you would never finish  ..).

2010 bursary winners

Each year the Guild holds a draw at the AGM and gives two prizes of £50 to spend, as the winner chooses, on some aspect of embroidery.

Winners this year were Jackie Wilkins who used her £50 towards a term's course with Loo Round and has been able to fulfil her ambition to produce more adventurous pieces of work.

Loo Round was the second of our winners and put the money towards the residential weekend where she enjoyed making machine embroidered landscapes with Carol Naylor.

Ineke Berlyn workshop June 2011

About 20 of us were lucky enough to enjoy a day's workshop with Ineke, making a contemporary quilted bookcover or wallhanging.  This involved ripping/cutting fabric strips, attaching them to the wadding and backing, printing with a variety of thermofax screens and then embellishing with sheers, ribbons, buttons, foil ... you name it!  Some of the colourful results can be seen below:

"Folkestone Weekend" 2011

64 guild members spent the weekend at the Clifton hotel in Folkestone at the end of April. Work began a lttle later than usual as we had to watch some of the royal wedding first!

Tutors this year were Carol Naylor and Barbara Inchley who provided us with endless inspiration and plenty of guidance.

As usual, the Clifton provided comfortable rooms and fabulous food and there was no washing up to be done!! Everyone agreed it was a fabulous course and we look forward to next year.

Ann

The bodies of my dolls are sewn from fine cotton fabric, with hand drawn and coloured faces giving each doll a truly individual personality; clothes are styled with matching shoes, bags and hats, and embellished with embroidery, ribbons and beads.

These are all from my Exhibition ‘Dolly Mixtures' in Hythe, August 2009.

Cathy

Both these pieces were designed and made as part of my Level 2 C&G (with Barbara Inchley).

The piece on the right is made up of free machine stitches on a background of felt and layers of sheers. Burnt out with soldering iron and applied onto wire form.
The one on the left is a wall hanging made of various layers with free and digitised stitches, printing, sheers worked on wire and a free machined border which has also been enhanced with the use of a soldering iron.

I made the piece on the left at a Creative Embroidery class with Pam Buck and enjoyed the technique so much that I have since made several others.  Pieces of cord and curtain rings are sandwiched between layers of fabric and oversewn with variegated threads which are pulled quite tight to create a 3-D piece.
